WHYTE &
MACKAY EAST SUPER LEAGUE
Saturday 7th June 2003
Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic 1 - 2 TAYPORT
This afternoon Tayport clinched the inaugural Whyte
& Mackay East Super League title with a 2 - 1 win at
New Dundas Park against Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic.
The 'Port got off to a bad start when David Watt scored
for the home team after only 3 minutes. Tayport looked a
bit jaded in the first half and with Bonnyrigg playing a
lot of good passing football if anything they should
perhaps have added to their one goal advantage.
Tayport were a bit livelier in the second half and Barry
McNaughton was unfortunate to see a well struck shot hit
a post. Shortly afterwards an Alan Ramsay goalbound shot
hit his own player and was cleared. Not to be outdone
the Rose hit a post at the other end. The pressure on
the OVD Scottish Cup Winners was relieved in the 73rd
minute when Scott Peters hit a well struck shot past the
home goalkeeper from 20 yards after McNaughton had done
well to lay the ball back. Five minutes later Tayport
tied up the match and the
title with a typical crashing header from John Ward
following a corner.
In the other Super League match today Hill of Beath
defeated Dundee Violet 2 - 1 but remain 4 points behind
Tayport with only one match remaining.
