The warm up amateur pitch looked in better condition than the playing surface which had players from both sides slipping and sliding away. Same for both sides so no excuses on the surface point of view. Port just could not put it away, this was down to a very spirited performance from Forth who battled throughout the 90 minutes. Good opening first period for Tayport with Forth on the backfoot for a while fighting like terriers. On 12 mins a strong penalty claim for Tayport was waved away by the referee followed 5 mins later with a header being tipped onto the crossbar.  29 minutes a very strong tackle by Forth defender Gallacher on the right ended up with Steven Stewart rolling in agony needing some urgent attention. The referee had no option but the Red card and a very early bath for Gallacher. 30 minute mark and a through ball from the Port midfield found Barry McNaughton running in slotting the ball home from 16 yards. Port continued to press with balls from both wings being cleared by the Forth defence. 42 minutes and a Forth forward let loose from around 25 yards with Frazer Fitzpatrick handling the shot well as the Port defence looked on.

The second period had Forth pushing forward more. A free kick on the left on the 47 minute mark was sent into the middle of the Port defence with Grant Paterson rising to clear the ball and striking the top of the defenders head  straight into the top right corner of the Port goal with Fitzpatrick looking on. Forth continued to set a strong pace clearing from defence and playing like terriers.  A much improved performance from Forth from the first period which showed how they were in the 5th round of the OVD. The gaffer decided on a change with Kevin Heenan being replaced by Allan Ramsay, now Port had a little terrier on the field who within 10 minutes had a diving header cleared by the Forth defence. A Steven Stewart shot well held by the Forth keeper and Barry McNaughton holding his head after a 22 yard strike hitting the upright. Ever get the feeling it was not going to be your day? 80 minutes and the gaffer brought on Sean Christie for Ralph Hunter Sean on the left and trying to probe down the wing but Forth were not for lying down. 1-1 and a visit to the Cainniepairt for Forth Wanderers. This match is far from over and a lot of hard work will be required if either team is to progress to the next round.
