This 5th round OVD Scottish Cup Replay at the Cainniepairt had
the expectations of a difficult encounter for Tayport and lived up to
its full billing. Drama, missed opportunities, bookings (not a dirty
match), sending off, excitement for both camps, amateur dramatics,
goalmouth incidents, high and lows and great goals were just a few of
what was served up for the fans. Port controlled most of the opening
half except for a 10 minute period midway through where Forth were on
the offensive with some searching balls into the Tayport goal area which
caused some confusion at times. Tayport's best opportunity fell to
central defender John Ward who found himself clear and on the end of a
Steven Stewart ball in the Forth goalmouth area. Wardie headed it down
towards the keepers right but lack of power gave the Forth keeeper an
easy pick up. With Forth defending in numbers Tayport continued to build
from midfield and down the left but the Forth defence was not for
crumbling. Ralph Hunter slid the ball to Allan Ramsay who let loose from
25 yards with the ball screeching over the crossbar. Port continued to
press during the closing period with a Scott Peters effort on 45 minutes
screaming past the left hand post.. Second half started in similar
fashion with Tayport pushing forward and Forth defending in numbers.
56th minute mark and a rare Forth attack from the right sending over a
searching ball to the back post which was met by Gallacher who sent the
ball goalbound and the Forth support into cloud nine. Just the injection
Port needed to get them into top gear again. Great professionalism and
commitment won the day and the hearts of the Port support. Pushing
forward yet again Tayport grabbed the equiliser on the 71st minute when
what may have been a miss hit fell to Gareth Dailly who slotted the ball
home to the keepers left from 16 yards. 19 minutes remained to be
played and Forth were back in numbers yet again with most players
showing great commitment and others doing there best to attract the
referees attention. Unfotunaltly the ref did not spot some obscene gestures
by the Forth keeper Colquhoun but could not fail to spot his rendition
of Swan Lake after a tackle from Allan Ramsay. Sean Christie replaced
Gareth Dailly before more amateur dramatics did not help John Ward when
he made his challenge on keeper Colquhoun from a Port corner resulting
in Wardie making his way for an early shower after a second bookable
offence. 90th minute and Tayport were awarded a free kick 24 yards out.
Steven Stewart stepped up to place the ball with the Forth defence
setting out a five man wall. Steven let loose a well placed shot into
the bottom right hand corner of the Forth goal with Colquhoun looking on
in desperation.
