One of the few surviving fixtures this weekend Recreation Park had one of its biggest crowds of the season. Port boss Dave Baikie made a few changes from last weekends victory over Forth resting Scott Peters, Ralph Hunter, Barry McNaughton and Gareth Dailly who took there place on the subs bench. Playing down the slope in the opening period Port were quick on the attack with Sean Christie heading just wide of the upright. StAndrews were not without their opportunities during the opening 20 minutes with Port keeper Frazer Fitzpatrick bringing of a fine save from a Butchart header followed by a fierce shot from Colin Jeffrey which just sailed past the Port upright with keeper Fitzpatrick fully stretched. This was StAndrews best period of the match but their failure to grab those early opportunities did not help there cause as Port on the 20 minute mark went ahead through a Derek Weymss goal from inside the area after he picked up a loose ball. The opening goal settled the Port who nearly went further ahead from a Brain Craik header which was tipped over the crossbar.  33 minutes and a corner on the right for Tayport was cleared to the edge of the area where Allan Ramsey volleyed it past the StAndrews keeper. The second period proved much busier for the StAndrews keeper who was quick into action saving a Derek Weymss effort with his feet then bringing of a fine diving save after a solid strike from Sean Christie.  Tayport keeper Fitzpatrick was also called into early action brining of a fine save from a Derek Hamilton effort. 60 minutes and StAndrews were awarded a free kick out on the left, a super searching ball was sent into the Tayport area with the blinding sun behind it. Players rose along with keeper Fitzpatrick . There may have been a touch somewhere but next thing the ball was in the back of the net giving the home support some hope and warming up a cold afternoon. Tayport replied within 60 seconds through a scramble in the StAndrews area with the ball  falling to Brian Craik who headed into the open goalmouth Tayport finished the match of with a free kick from Sean Christie around 25 yards out. Sean lined it up and bent it around the wall into the net. Port deserved their victory but StAndrews have to be given credit for their share of the action in the match. Next week Port travel across the Tay to Carnouiste for a 2nd round North End Challenge Cup match.

06/03/04 - Carnoustie Panmure 0 v 3 Tayport Challenge Cup

Not at match so sorry no pics.

After a fairly even opening period during which neither team really threatened, Tayport comfortably saw off Carnoustie Panmure in the second half, to reach the next round of the North End Challenge Cup.
A good attendance had been attracted to Westfield Park to see the meeting of two of the OVD Cup quarter finalists but they had to wait until the early minutes of the second half for the opening goal, Dougie Craig heading the ball past his own keeper, Bobby Geddes with no danger threatening.
Tayport took over after this and further goals from Sean Christie (67min) and Brian Craik (74m) could well have been added to as Tayport dominated the second period. Panmure's gary Buick was sent off near the end following a second yelow card for a crude challenge on John Ward.
Team - Fitzpatrick, Peters, Paterson, Ward, Wemyss, Craik,(Hunter), Ramsay (McNaughton) Stewart, Christie (Heenan), Morris, Honeyman.
