21/04/04 Glenrothes v Kelty Hearts - East Super League

Kelty penalty miss

Who needs Champion League semi finals when you can watch Glenrothes v Kelty for £3. Value for money this certainly was with great controversy thrown in, along with water bottles flying wow I am confused after this result. This encounter had 3 valuable points up for grabs for both teams to help secure Super League status for next season. Blustery evening but dry on top both teams set out their tactics quickly with Kelty starting at 100 mph going for an early lead gaining a corner within 50 seconds and sending in a low cross which nearly caught out the Glenrothes defence.. Next was a couple of long range efforts from Kelty handled confidently by the Glenrothes keeper. Not to be denied Glenrothes hit back very quickly with some long range efforts also handled well by the Kelty keeper. In 23 minutes a strong run through the middle from Glens resulted in a strike from 18 yards taken cleanly by the Kelty defence. 2 minutes later Kelty had a corner from the left firing in a  low waist level ball nearly catching out the Glens defence on the near post. 30 minutes and two efforts from Kelty with searching balls flying across the Glens goalmouth only needing a touch to send them goalbound. The best opportunity of the first half fell to Kelty in 34 minutes with a free kick from the left flighted in finding a Kelty forward who could not direct his free header goal bound and the ball skimming wide. Glens finished the first period with a flourish testing the Kelty keeper and defence. No bookings and game was being played in a friendly manner.

Second period opened similar to the first except it was Glens who were showing why they are OVD semi finalists. 49 minutes and a Glens shot from 20 yards was tipped away for a corner followed quickly by another effort sent again for a corner followed by a Glens header flashing by the upright. Game starting to get tense with the touchline officials from both sides jumping sending out orders. Next the linesman calls the Referee over and a Kelty official is sent to the stand. As the sun went down the tackles became stronger and the referee started making his point. Kelty on the attack running at the defence into the area and the call goes out for a penalty but no says the referee. With the player cutting inside and heading to the corner flag another strong penalty call this time the ref  has no hesitation as the Kelty player is sent sprawling to the ground. The resulting penalty going to the keepers left. And thekeeper diving in the same direction bringing of a gallant save. Minutes later a Glens player is sent to the ground with the Ref stopping play to give the player treatment What happens next you may ask well I am confused and this is where the controversy starts. On the restart Kelty send the ball back to the Glens keeper coming of his line to collect it, next thing I see is it heading into the Glens goalmouth after another touch from a Kelty forward. ( I am looking through a camera lens) Well here we go not to many happy bunnies on the Glens side with Kelty players in a heap on the touchline.

Minutes later Full Time and all hell lets loose as the players enter the tunnel with water bottles flying around and the referee and officials looking concerned.

As I was editing pictures through my camera lens I missed the goal but if you have a view please share them on the messageboard click
