East Super League team Kelty Hearts were the visitors today at East
Shore Park for this Interbrew Cup Match. Burgh sitting second bottom in
the Fife League played the match with great enthusiasm defending well
during the first period making it difficult for Kelty to settle. The
opening 30 minutes and both keepers were never really tested with most of
the play midfield with the occasional break through from both sides. 35
minute mark and a scramble in the Burgh goal area with a shot coming off
the Burgh keeper rebounding to the feet of a Kelty forward who struck goal
from 6 yards. Newburgh came very close to replying just before half time
with a cracking strike being sent for a corner.
Kelty came out for the second period looking hungry to wrap the match up but Newburgh dug in well still fighting and holding their own. 60 minutes and Kelty came close hitting the right hand upright and having 3 corners in quick succession. Kelty were pressing the Burgh defence and on the 75 minute mark from a midfield free kick the ball was sent down the right for the wingers cross to be met by the sliding Kelty attacker who hit the net for 0-2. Kelty were now in full control following up with a third in 80 minutes from a fine strike at 22 yards beating the Burgh keeper who managed a hand to the ball but was unable to direct it away from goal. |
